sorry to me that does not sound encouraging. especially the results from south australia as that just gives me double the amount of time to paddle my boat back to safety 2 minutes seems like a long time when youre paddling but not so long when youre fighting wind and current at the same time. thanks for the info bro. it was interesting to say the least whether i should shell out the 500 for the unit.

This is a future test with results in a year early.
Lol

Don't think the product would hurt one bit but like hobie till the value goes down don't think I'll shell out the cash. If it happens it was ment to be.

Safe paddles everyone.

To me the results suggest that on average the shield increases the time the shark takes to strike, which increases the probability of a yakkers success in a shark/yak interaction.  The sharks seem especially deterred when only the decoy was used, which is most like our situation.  While we're hanging small pieces of bait in the water, we're not hanging bloody half pigs from floats.

I don't think shark shield guys claim that these things will completely stop a GW, but they appear to increase your chances in an encounter.  I guess the buyer has to decide if fixing the card deck a bit is worth 500 or 600 bucks.

I don't think I buy that, I truly believe its all luck.. bad luck I mean. If it really work then great but I do not plan on getting one. Might help with peace of mind though and that's worth more

When the seal decoy was towed behind a boat in South African waters for a total of 189 trials near Seal Island, when the shield was not turned on, 16 breaches and 27 surface interactions were witnessed.

When the unit was turned on, sharks were seen to visibly abort attack charges, with not one surface breaches observed.
To me it passed with flying colors! Attacks were aborted and no breaches. Complete success! The tuna/burly experiment are almost irrelevant to our application, unless you are one of this people who think hanging a cbass off the side of your yak is a smart storage method.

If next time you went to buy a car, the salesperson offered you a model without seat belts and airbags, would you take it?

To me, the notion of "If it happens it was meant to be" is a little less pro active than the way I like to approach known dangers. Call it self preservation if you will.

Now for spearos, on the other hand, the bait test would suggest it is somewhat successful. But when it comes to avoiding death or disability, Ill take a 50% chance of avoidance.
