I don't understand how empty headed you have to be to think you can legally kill a great white.  You have a man standing there telling you it is illegal, and you are going to argue?  Cool story... glad they let it live.

If you get one close enough to the yak for a picture after one accidentally takes your bait, you should get 1,000 AOTY points. Just throwing it out there.

I think that is pretty amazing for a pier angler to bring an 8' white shark in for a photo. Not like those pier guys are using 400# steel leaders and Penn International 50W's. It may be a baby but still several hundred pounds of fish. WTG to whoever that was. I caught a hitchhiker GWS at Guadalupe Island a few years back. Lasted one second and a 100# YFT became a 20# tuna head in one second. The collars and cheeks were great.
