If you have a fish that leaves a mess in your boat as it goes through its death throes make sure you flush it out really good if the stuff gets on your electronics.  After I caught a rock fish at Linda Mar I didn't think it was a big deal when I saw some "goobers" on my exposed Matrix power cable (didn't hook up the unit for the beach exit).  I gave it a token rinse with the garden hose when I got home.  Well, the next time I went out (HMB tournament), my FF turned itself off each time I hit a big swell.  For those of you who were out there that was every 10 secs in most spots.

When I got home and did the diagnostics it turned out that the "rock fish goobers" penetrated one of the prongs and ate away the wire underneath the insulation so it wasn't supplying continuous current to the FF.  So lesson learned, if anything gets into my cable connections they get scrubbed out thoroughly, rinsed with fresh water and WD-40 and then coated with dielectric grease.  I'm lucky that it was the power cable (West Marine $19) and not the transducer cable ($50+).

So that's why I didn't win the HMB tourney...you lucked out Javier.  LOL

Tight lines,

Gary
