Took my 3 year old a spiderman rod, a tractor and oh yeah my fishing gear.  Birds working a little far off. Salmon?  Every now and then they hit the surf line and Chovie bouncing on the beach.  Fished for an hour taught my son to cast and bagged another 0.  On the bright side, I did see a nice 8lb striper come up while I was teaching my son to catch, of course where I was fishing. Fuzz if you read this, as soon as we hung up the guy hooked up.

I am excited about bait, but anxious for fish. Water is Kayakable, if I had the time.

Damn that would be too much frustration I'd have to strap some waterwings on the boy and go for it

I might try LM this week,  I don't eat the stripers anymore but it's tempting to take along a hairraiser or two and prowl the surfline

hey blue, just curious, why don't you eat stripers? i have never caught one or eaten any before and I am wondering why.

any info please!

Thanks!

john

Would've been cooler if your son hooked up on his spiderman rod   :smt004

I got my boy a spiderman rod too--his b-day's tomorrow, but he's only 3!  Maybe he'll get the addiction early.   :smt001

He was throwing a bill special swimbait with no hook.  Everytime he reached the water he yelled YES!!!  It was great.  To bad I couldn't catch a fish to impresse him.

As far as I know the stripers are loaded with mercury F&G publishes some sort of stats about how much is safe to eat and I think stripers have hit the red zone Maybe one of the marine biologists can ring in on that one

I've eaten enough of striper that my mercury levels are probably higher than the fish's and would probably still be eating it but I have a wife to feed and I insist on her eating a healthy diet

Actually that's probably quite true. The big "fish" accumulate all of the toxins from the ones they eat. I don't eat stripers or bay fish; I figure I eat enough mercury already by just eating a lot of fish, lobster, etc., without resorting to the red zone fish.

Yeah, my ears are ringing so loud the floor buffer guy just went by here at work and I could still hear it over his machine

I've been wondering if it's mercury or something like that When my teeth start falling out and I start acting like a raving lunatic I guess I'll know for sure

I've heard mixed things about this...I don't quite understand the striper's life cycle. Are they in the Bay year-round, and they come out to the beaches to spawn? I've also heard that stripers caught in the ocean are safe while stripers caught in the bay are not...this sounds like a broad, simplified generalization. All I know is that it tastes great, and I rarely catch any stripers, so I'm probably okay.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...
