Help

I have a Malibu Pro Explorer. I love it, I bought it for fishing but have only really used it for....um... well exploring.  I need help knowing what I should put on the yak and what not to.  I mostly fish on small bodies of water lakes, creeks, ponds etc no bay or ocean.  I don't want it to be cumbersome just basics and essentials ....any help and ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

  Well, what kind of fishing are you more apt to do? Trolling?,(Trout) tossing jig's? (Bass), mooching,?(salmon) Fly? (Trout, stripers) panfish?  A lot of us use fish finders (sonar) to locate structure under water, where bass will hang in wait, to locate bait balls, and fish.
  Most people install at least 2 rod holders, if the hull doesn't have them already, either flush mount styles, or kinds that can be mounted to "Milk crate's" that are strapped in the back well.
  Me, on my Hobie Outback, I have it pretty blinged out.  I installed a compass, a  FF/GPS combo unit, hull has 4 built in rod holders, I added 2 scotty rod holders in the front, and one on the back end left side to hold my small scotty lake troller down rigger. 
  I have "string LED lights" to go inside my hull for nighttime illumanition (Not yet installed though)

One thing you'll find out, is everyone here (99% anyway) preach safety! Safety! Safety! OTW.  Have and wear a PFD while on the water! 

Oh most here have VHF radios to keep in contact while OTW, not a necessity, but highly recommended.

   

I usually opt to take a milk crate, zip tie a few 10" pieces of PVC tubing on it (large enough ID to hold fishing rod grips) and put a short leash attached to a dry bag inside inside the crate. Bungie the crate to the tankwell or back deck, put your rods in the tubes, and tackle, lunch, whatever else in the drybag. You are good to go.
Once you fish it a bit, you'll learn where you want your flush mount rod holders, FF, or other accessories.

 Or not. You may find that the easily removable milk crate setup is the best for you. I used a crate for about 5 years.

U should be able to get most of what u need for the day into the center hatch. I try to go minimalist, so other than a fishfinder and what i need in my center hatch (Adventure)., my plano box holds my rods, net and lunch and misc stuff. Your tankwell real estate isnt too big so figure out what works best for u. If u google " malibu pro explorer rigging" u will find some stuff from other forums as well.  Good luck and see u otw
