Modified Rod Float

I'd like to apologize if this has been posted before. I've been wanting to use those med size pool noodles as rod floats but problems are first, there's not much clearance between the line and rod and second, you can only use limited length of noodle in between the bottom guides. I used to use the pipe insulation from Lowes/Home depot but they only come in black/gray (Colored ones preferred just in case you take the drink, they'd be easier to spot upon retrieving). I came up with a solution by cutting a notch deep enough to bury the rod shaft and finishing it with zip ties. This way, it won't get in the way of your line specially when casting while bass fishing. No more wrapping the rod with bulky noodles and you can use desired length for flotation peace of mind.

That's a very practical solution to prevent the float from getting in the way of casting.  I'll have to try it.  Thanks for the tip!
