The bite has cooled down a little from three weeks ago, but fishing is still good for spots and smallmouths.  I spent 3 and 1/2 days at Beehive camp on the Sacramento Arm.  Caught fish on gitzit crawdad imitations, shad imitations and blue plastic worms, but nightcrawlers worked drifting with the wind were most productive.  Fish are 15-25 feet, and a lot of them are in mid-column.  My wife caught her first fish on her sit-in sea kayak, and outfished me on one day.
Had an embarrassing moment Thursday, when the wind was too strong to paddle and fish.  I stopped at a small rock island and tied the boat to a branch wedged between two rocks.  Caught a couple of bass, then discovered that the boat was drifting away.  I got ready to swim after it, which would have been difficult with that wind, but just then the sheriff's patrol boat came by, saw my predicament and retrieved the kayak for me.

Shasta,

Glad to see another far nor-cal yak fisher on the site.  sounds like you had a pretty good day on the water.   I haven't been out in a few weeks, been spending most of my time dirt biking up towards Hat Creek with this great weather.  Last time out we were near Silverthorn, and hammered 'em.  I'm pretty booked up for the next week or so, but let me know if you'd like to hook up and stick a few...

Tight Lines,
Ben

My truck is still in the shop, here is alturas, but let me know if you guys fish the burney area. I am still waiting to fish blue lake but it has snowed for the past 3days in that area.

I'd love to head up and hook a few.  A fried of mine fishes Fall River, i've seen pictures, but never fished it myself, and it looks like an ideal water to paddle.  Also, I heard the crappie are on a pretty good bite over at Britton, have you had a chance to check it out?

Not yet at Britton just keep passing it to go to the derbys, but you can fill a cooler with those fish. Kind of waiting to go to Blue lake but I'm keeping my mouth shut because the last time  said I was going it rained on me and the weather has not been favorable since.
