So, I am headed up to the Albion event. The competition is for rock fish but it seems we might also be able to go for some salmon. What would you recommend for line and tackle for each species?

First be prepared for some swell and a little wind!
Then bring some swimbaits & iron jigs for rockies and you can't go wrong. A little squid doesn't hurt, either, if you like that kind of thing.
Braided line with a mono leader the usual setup. Many swear by a 20# or so leader so you can break off if needed. I've never had a problem breaking off 30# mono.
Salmon is a whole 'nother thing...
