Awesome! I am also going to bring some salmon and salmon eggs that I vacuum sealed to try out in a roll.

Maybe. I will finally get a chance to break inmy gear!  How long gone do I need to be able to hold my breath to get abs at 10'?

Also, may need to score a few more lbs in weights, I keep my super floaty physic neutral buoyant  :smt003.

See you guysin T minus 96hour!

Glen, i have extra weight i can bring. If your practice breath holds are 40 seconds, that's probably 30 secs underwater and enoigh to grab an abalone and uni in 10 ft of water. In fact,@10 ft, you r in danger of hitting your head against the bottom on the way down. Happened to me at low tide once.

Peace & Blessings!

This is going to be fun watching all the newbies diving for the first time. Imy self am new to Ab diving but I've  been scuba for 20 plus years. Can't wait.

I myself can only go down about 35' on a free dive. That leaves about 5 seconds to find game. That means my active range will be much shallower.

My best advice, and I am definitely NOT an expert, is start slow and shallow and see how that goes...

If we are lucky we will have nice calm water inside the cove...

Bring your kelp clip and make sure your kayak is well secured before jumping off and into the water...while you are getting your gear on you should be able to tell if the yak is secure or not because the time you spend getting your fins, mask, weightbelt etc on will allow a set or two to pass through...even then you should sneak a peek at your yak every now and again to make sure it is not floating away!  :smt002

For those that have not dove before.........just focus on getting comfy in the water, diving down, looking around, making sure your mask fits well, equalizing your ears, getting used to the kelp etc...

Have your dive buddy keep an eye on you, and vice a versa if you are not super comfy out there...

Bring food and water on your yak to allow you to rest and refuel if you start feeling worn out...

When you see an ab MEASURE it well with your gauge before going to pop it...everything looks bigger underwater!!

If you put your floatline on your ab iron you can drop it next to the ab and come up and rest and breath in between gauging and popping if need be...

Trust me...you'll feel like crap if you don't measure the ab well and pop it and it is cut and then when you measure it on the surface you realize it is short and you gotta go put it back and you KNOW it will die anyway because you cut it.  :smt009 :smt010 :smt009

When you see the urchins, pop away!! My experience is that there are plenty of folks back at camp that like eating them so don't be shy!  :smt003

And...most importantly...follow the rules...everyone must pop their own abs and you must tag them and complete your report card IMMEDIATLEY upon returning to shore...no wandering back to your site to get a beer first.  :smt002

Is it Friday yet?!?!

I stole this pic from Alfredo cuz it is beautiful AND it shows what the kelp looks like in the cove right now. Fingers crossed it looks anywhere near as nice and glassy this weekend!!

Underneath that kelp you will find abalone and urchins. If it is too deep where you are diving for you, move in shallower.

If you are not seeing any abs or uni in one spot, swim or paddle to a different one.
