Hi all,

I was planning on hanging my kayak from the ceiling in my garage, but my wife shot that idea down.  Aside from hanging the kayak, is there another way to safely store it without risk of warping?  Will upside down on a rack be OK?

Also, I'm in the San Ramon east bay area of Nor Cal and it can get to over 100F here during the Summer.

Thanks all!
Kampana

Make sure you support it well and consider supporting it in more than 2 places.  Keep it out of the sun and protect it with a good coat of Aerospace 303 protectant.  I'd also recoment keeping at least 1 hatch open to aid in keeping the inside fo the hull dry and smell free (asuming you can do so without critters getting in).

Thanks FishingForTheCure,

The kayak will be supported by the racks almost along its whole length, just a 4' break in the middle where I need to walk under it.  It'll definitely be out of the sun while in storage.  Do you think upside down is best when storing in this manner?

Thanks again!

I prefer to store mine upside down.  I have 2 of my kayaks stored in metal cradles (upside down) with the lowest one @ about 7' off the ground.  My 3rd kayak I am still working on a cradle for it and It will most likely be a 3-support.  I also pad my cradle arms.

The recommended way to store your kayak is on its side. If you store your kayak flat and you have high temps for a long period of time your kayak will sag. Trust me. Or on end but I dont have the height for that option.

I store mine on it's side on the wall with J- style. Hooks I bought from West Marine, I'd recommend alternating the direction, my OK T13  seems to pull to the right when I am paddling and it's not a right arm stronger thing, I think it's from storing it on its right side too long

I use ladder hooks from Home Depot. Inexpensive, easy to find, and easy to install.

I wanted extra cushion for my kayak, so I replaced the thin foam padding with a section of pool noodle, which slips right on. Stored on its side, there is no warping even after a few seasons.
