Wow what a unfortunate and devastating event. Condolences to the families. The guy was a total wack job. He  had a gas mask, bullet proof vest and assault rifle with a 100 round magazine. Doubt armed civilians would have much of a chance. All that said, if I was there, I would rather go down swinging.

That entire situation is a lose lose situation. To make comments about police response times is lame. Who else other than fire and police show up to work day by day and get scrutinized over any and all moves they make.

Very sad day for the victims. And I hope that guy gets some special attention while being locked up.

I may be wrong but I dont get the feeling he is knocking police response time other than to say that for a few minutes you are on your own, despite the best efforts of the police.  So given that option, what is the best defense possible in a bad situation?

E2g thanks for clarifying for me.  Mr. Matt, I didn't mean to critique the police.  There are obvious logistical reasons why it takes time for them to arrive.  Until they can see into the future ala Minority Report... these things will happen.  I felt like I was clear, if you read all of my comments, I was speaking to the right (or lack there of) for a man to at least try to defend himself and his family.  To have to rely strictly on the men and women of law enforcement just doesn't make sense.  At the end of the day, aren't we all responsible for our own safety?  Just like this kayaking business... if you go out alone, and dump it, you are going to have to save yourself... the coast guard isn't going to magically appear to bail your ass out.  Not that a damn movie theater is supposed to be a dangerous place, but at the end of the day, the responsibility (and ability) to protect oneself is paramount.
