I use Raw market shrimp as well think shallow shallow shallow. I even put shrimp on jig head suspended from bobber and cast near the shore. Or you can sabiki in shallow but bait really does help. Think shallow bro. you'll get one for sure
I like to have fun.......

For me the small irons in th 1oz range seem to produce well. They like fast moving baits for reaction and chunks of shrimp for the bait fishing method. The shrimp chunks seem to be most effective and I caught several each time I fished for perch. How ever you go about it let them chew awhile longer than usual and at times it may take several drops to hook an aggresive fish due to their tiny mouths.

I like a 1 or 1.5 oz jig head with a chartreuse grub on it. I use my light action rod and cast it between kelp beds, then bounce it back between the beds. Works like a charm and allows you to cover a lot of ground quickly.

Usually I catch greenlings in shallow water--from 15fow to 5 fow.  Always on smaller hooks and even sabiki around kelp and usually on the way up.

Remember, that if you catch a greenling on the smallish side, it can become the best
candy for lings and larger rock cod.  Last year, I used the same greenling and nailed three
lings--two were keepers.  They have thick lips and don't come off the hook as other live bait.  Happy fishing.

I target greenling for bait at the start of every RF trip.  I use a 1/4 oz kastmaster and fish it shallow.  It never misses.  For bait, I don't use them whole.  I fillet them onboard and slice up the fillets into strips, then put the strips on my swim baits.  This method kills lings.  They can't resist the smell of fresh cut greenling, and it masks the other smells (like sunsceen and stuff) that may be on your swimbait.

I went out on Friday and caught ten legal lings, largest at 33 inches.  My two friends were using squid tipped swim baits and one guy caught 2 and the other guy only caught one.  Lings love this.  The only problem is that if you're trying to catch rockfish, you can't keep the lings off.
