The rafters gone wild event is happening today on the American river, thousands of people floating down the river partying. With so many people on the river at once, a tremendous amount of trash, clothes, shoes, bodily fluids and various other goodies get left in the water. Not sure where I'm going to launch yet but all I'm takin is PDF, paddle, water, and trash bags.

Although the littering bothers me itself, it would bother me even more to not do anything about it. Obviously the event can't be stopped so clean up is in order. I'm sure there are other organizations and people who will be out there doing the same thing for similar reasons, anyone know of any?

If anyone is interested it would be cool to get a carpool going to help pick a longer stretch of river. Thinking about launching at lower sunrise and take out at watt or Howe. Most rafters are taking out at river bend or ancil Hoffman, so I figure this will be the trashy part of the river.

Kind of short notice but if anyone is interested, let me know.

Joe

2 full loads and some goodies to take home, not a bad day. Still plenty of trash out there but there were lots of people out cleaning up, saw tons of shad, 6 or 7 stripers and 3 salmon.

That last pic looks like you mugged a backpacker.  I don't think they are in season yet.  Perhaps next time you can target bikini's.  Bring home a bag full of bikinis and you would probably make the news.

Good job on the clean up.

I was wondering if anyone would catch that. He was definitely prepped for an overnighter, jar of pb and all, but he was not to be found. All those goodies including a bunch of clothes were in a tied garbage bag washed up under the overhanging trees below San juans, water had still got in though.

No I.D. And phone got wet so I think it all falls into the "finders keepers" category. There was also a guy passed out on one of the private docks above jedidiah smith footbridge, would've made a good picture
