Hi all....this is my first post since I've joined.  I met some of you last week at Cal Kayak in Oakland (I was the one with the fishfinder problem).  Anyway....I'm thinking of doing some surf-fishing in HMB on Sunday.  Any suggestions on where to go?

The south jetty holds some decent fish but if you use squid crabs will eat your bait all day.
Seen some rockfish taken from that area.

Theres a lot of beach access in Half Moon Bay.  Drive along Highway 1 and stop along any beach access that you see and give it a go.  I've only fished for perch along the beaches, so if you're looking for some striper action, not too sure about that.

Good luck.

If you are up for scrambling boulders the HMB North Jetty can be fun.

Francis beach, Venice, Dunes even Montera. Look for cars with rods on top and people fishing. Also birds working. Evenings are probably better  :smt006

Hi Michele.  I see you found our forum.  Welcome to NCKA.  Did CCK ever get your fish finder working right?  Let us know if not, it should be an easy fix.

Dunno if they fixed it....when I went to pick it (and test it out) the battery was dead :smt012

Anyway....change of plans....Donna and I want to take the Kayaks out tomorrow (and do surf fishing)  Are one of the above recommended sights stile recommended if so?

Otherwise we'll go back to Bean Hollow.....the only place where we've found safe to take our kayaks out.

Anyone going tomorrow?  Any suggestions?  Any halibut there?

FYI - Bean Hollow is regarded as Shark Attack Central. You may want to consider Monterey Bay Kayak, aka MBK.

Hi Michele
Yes I remember you from CCk.

Welcome to the madness.
Forum is abuzz, especially for the event that happened along SMC.

I will fish tomorrow at Muir beach early morning. A little north but still in red triangle.

Try to hook up with some experienced peeps and stay together

I'll be fishing HMB tomorrow. Will fish in the morning then head in to meet up with Mooch and we'll both do the Vets Blues Festival at 1 PM. Come drop by the H.O.W. booth and say Hi. Otherwise will be on Ch. 69. Frankfishing

The only access in Halfmoon Bay is through the harbor. Some people park in the parking lot adjacent to Halfmoon Bay Kayak company.
If you want to beach launch. The very south end of Linda Mar in Pacifica is pretty good. Park in the parking lot of Norcal Surf Shop.
good spot for Butts, Stripers and rockfish.

WTTM!!!
Hang with some of the local NCKA peeps and they will show you the ropes.
It definitely helps to flatten out the learning curve.
And yea, Bean Hollow is considered a high rent district. Be careful.
