Tuna fishing Braid question

What lb braid should i run for yellow tail or albacore fishing? I have a tyrnos 10 2speed reel on a 7' lamiglass sardine rod 1-3oz lure weight. i was thinking 50lb powerpro is that gonna be strong enough?

We usually use 60-80lb powerpro on our trolling rods and 30-40 on our jigging/swimbait rods.

So 50 would be the middle ground for both lol

Only did it on one 6 day trip, but 50 served me well. Always felt like I had enough to handle what ever we got. Landed #30 plus yellowtail no problem.

We run straight mono on our boat for albacore which allows more cushion on the troll hookup and less saw-offs in a tangle in multiple hookups.  On the kayak 65 powerpro with a mono topshot. What boat are you chartering?

I run 65# power pro not because I need that heavy a line, but because it doesn't bite into itself and get suck on the spool like the lighter line does.

when i lived down there the standard was 65-100lb braid backing with a topshot of 50-100 yards 40-60 lb mono. the braid just give you the ability to have alot of line on your spool. the charters tend to frown upon braid as a main line. too many people on a packed charter causes problems. but it is all up to you. if you are trolling up the mono to 80lb. hope it helps bro.

Most charters down south have no problem with people on braid....as long as they follow their line.  I fished regularly on them with 65 lb braid backed with a 50 yard top shot or so.  If I was rockfishing I went with a very short top shot 10-20 yards.

If you went with 50 lb power pro I would say the heaviest mono you can use is 40 lb test.  Mono usually has a much higher breaking strength that what its rated at.  If i recall, braid's breaking strength is usually closer to the rating.
