Army turns 237 years old! Hoooah!

To all my fellow Army Vets salutations! Our proud Service turns 237 today!  This got me thinking of the time I was at Fort Stwert "Home of the Third Infantry Division,"  They play the the 3rd ID song when the flag goes up.  It always gave me goose bumps hearing it, a very proud division! It was the theme song to "To Hell and Back," the story of Auddie Murphy.

Being a Red Leg at heart, I prefer the caisons song, but there is something about the this one...Oh yeah the dis on the Corp and the Squids! Hooooah!

^I'll raise a glass to that! 237 years of kicking ass and taking names, a long, long, long line of citizen soldiers.

That truth was never clearer to me than the solemn day my Regular Army battalion was deactivated. The colonel tied a Desert Storm campaign streamer onto the 511 MI guidon just before it was cased. That scrap of ribbon joined many others, from Vietnam, Korea, and I believe WWII. That shared heritage holds deep meaning for me.

 

I was there when we got our OIF Streamer on the Guidon, yeah there is a lot of pride when that happens!
