Wanted to head out to Berry and/or some lakes in the mountains when the WX is not good on the ocean.  Has anyone had luck trolling for trout at night with the usual dodger and worm set up?
Just figured that cooler temps at night and less PBs would be the best time to target trout in the summer.
Thanks
Ken

Hmmm, looks like gray area to me.  I've always been under the impression trout fishing was not allowed at night, but looks like Berry is okay?

3.00. FISHING HOURS.
(a) Day Defined: One hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. Remaining hours are night.
(b) All fish may be taken day or night, except as follows:
(1) WATERS WITH RESTRICTED FISHING HOURS FOR ALL SPECIES:
(A) American River between Business 80 and Nimbus Dam (Sacramento Co.): Night fishing prohibited
(B) Heenan Lake, (Alpine Co.): See Section 7.50(b)(76)(A).
(C) Mono County: Night fishing is prohibited in all Mono County waters except Topaz Lake, where fishing is prohibited from two hours after sunset to one hour before sunrise.
(D) Tahoe Lake (Placer and El Dorado cos.): Fishing is prohibited from two hours after sunset to one hour before sunrise.
(2) WATERS WHERE NIGHT AND DAY FISHING IS ALLOWED, BUT NO TROUT OR SALMON MAY BE TAKEN AT NIGHT:
(A) North Coast District.
(B) North Central District, all waters except Berryessa Lake (Napa Co.) and Mendocino Lake (Mendocino Co.)
(C) South Central District, all waters except Coyote Lake (Santa Clara Co.)
(D) Valley District, north of Interstate 80, all waters except Camp Far West Lake (Nevada, Placer, and Yuba counties), Collins Lake (Yuba Co.), Oroville Lake (Butte Co.), and Wildwood Lake (Nevada Co.).
(E) Shasta, Siskiyou, Lassen and Tehama counties.

I think Melones and Camanche allow night fishing but you need to be on the anchor.  The fishing reports for New Melones tout the use of a worm under a light (as an attractant I guess).  Floating the yak under the stars is still ideal, though.

The regs say that Berryessa is okay so if that is where you are going.  Looks legal to me.  Kind of a double negative but it basically says that you can fish night or day in Berryessa or Mendocino Lake.  The other places listed you can fish night or day but not for trout or salmon.

I haven't done it at Berryessa, but in some central valley lakes, hitting the dam area at night with crappie lights and minnows are the way to catch the big ones especially during the heat of summer.

I need to try that, I rigged up a light for sardine fishing/safety a little bit ago and haven't used it on the water yet. Gotta try it on Berry or Pine flat.

It rigged up with quick disconnects and Y's off the plug that powers my fishfinder.

Don't think people will miss this.  :smt001

Wow that's a sweet set up with the lights!
I work in NJ 1/2 the year so as you know it gets really hot in the north East.
So to target cold water species one needs to go out at night:
After the SS2 I noticed that the pb activity was insane and service temp was getting on the warm side.
Check out this link on trout fishing summers NJ style:
