Just wanted to put it out there that I will be camping at Marina Dunes RV park near Monterey from Wed. to Sun. May 17-21.  I am going to try and fish or dive everyday except maybe sunday.  Scwafsh and his clan will be there too.  Stop by if you are in the area or want to hook up to fish or dive.

Not to mention halibut from the beach a bit further south.  I wonder if there could be halibut up at Marina Beach?  It's not diver friendly so how would we know?

I know people dive out in front of the big hotel on reservation rd. just off the freeway.  I have been diving for halibut a lot of times from the hotel southward.  I have also been diving for halibut in the mouth of Moss and just a little north and south of that area.  They definately get them there.   A little later in the summer you will probably see scuba divers parking in the hotel lot and going out on beach dives there for halibut. I am hoping to find my birthday hali this weekend somewhere there on the coast.  We should have our cell phone and the number is 707-481-1117.  Hope to see some of you there.

Heh Dave,

Do you mean the hotel down in Seaside?  It used to be the Monterey Beach Hotel and is now a Best Western.  It is on Del Monte Beach which I've heard is good for Halibuts.

The beach off of Reservation Rd is really steep.  The hang gliders go out of there.

I'm thinking of the hotel with the big wooden cross on the hill just to the south of it.  Is that the Reservation road area?  I haven't been down in a while so it is all a little fuzzy.  Could be my old age setting in already.  I know for sure I have paddled from the "kayaks" area of del monte north up to a "hotel"  but I can't say for sure what it was.  I was thinking it was reservation road.  Either way it should be a blast.  There is also a good halibut spot out in front of lovers and off chart house.  So much area to play in and so little time.  Hope to see ya soon.

Gothcha.  That is Seaside and yes, it is a popular stretch of beach.  It's about 7 miles south of Reservation Road.  The beach off of reservation rd is good for perch though.

I got my halibut a few weeks ago just south of Lover's.  And yes, out of San Carlos is the other well known halibut spot.

It is a great area full of diverse opportunities.  What a great option for your birthday!
