'caught during 2009 and 2010 - were of "high concern," particularly along the North and Central coast...
Long-living predators such as sharks and some forms of rockfish were found to have the highest levels of methylmercury, the type that becomes concentrated in fish tissue, wherever they were caught...

As Adam 'Fishhunter' says 'release your trophy fish, it'll make you feel good'

..yeah

Here's a direct link to the report.   The heart of the matter are tables on Pages 36 and 37.  Depending upon where you live on the North/Central coast:  Coppers, Chinas, Gophers, Cabezon, and Lingcod all had samples over the recommended consumption limit for mercury.   Lingcod in Carmel!  Damn...

Boo.

Good thing I don't eat a lot of fish all year long.

:  /

Gonna stick to Monkeyface and kelpies and blues from here on out.

LOL!

Sincerely,

Jim

not a huge surprise on the mercury content.  I'm pretty sure most people know that china rockfish can be very old, so it would make sense that they could have high mercury levels.

Lings and cabs for the most part didn't appear to be too bad, 15% of lings were above the .44ppm threshold and 31% of cabs were above that.  most likely the larger/older ones.  BnYs, Coppers and Chinas seemed to be the most common RF above .44ppm, so I guess its time for me to avoid those as a precaution for the little one.
