At some point recently I wasn't paying attention and brought my swivel all the way in to the top eye on my favorite rod.It cracked the ceramic and now it's shredding my braid. How do I remove the old tip?

Heat the tip with a lighter and pull.  Where the rod meets the top not the tip.  You're trying to soften up the glue enough to pull the tip away from the rod. Hope that helps

+1

Be careful with the heat, I pull and heat at the same time, just a little too much heat and the rod material is ruined.  I aim the heat to be just on the metal that slides over the rod tip, but not at all on the rod material.  It doesn't take much,

You can buy a kit at Bass Pro Shops that has three different tip sizes and the hot glue for putting them on.  It only takes a little heat to loosen the tips.  I have used a Bic lighter and pulled on the tip while heating so it doesn't get over-heated.

FYI- As a future note if you put a little plastic bead before the swivel it prevents the swivel from coming back through the eye.

I would not use a blow dryer, heat would not be concentrated enough. I think it would heat up to much of rod before you could get the tip off, might not be good for the rod. Use a lighter or a small butane torch to heat the tip as you pull it off, as others have stated. I would not sand any thing till you have pulled the tip off, most of the clear coats cover vary little of the tip if any, usually butts up to tip for decoration. One other thing I do is to pre heat the new tip to give my self a little more time to line up the guides, ( warm not smoken hot ). Hope this helps.

Do what Dale L said.  Works every time and you don't ruin the rod material.

As noted above, you need a little heat, but it needs to be quick, a blow dryer might work but it would heat up he surrounding area before the tip got hot enough to come off.   I've never had to do the same rod twice so I've been able to get away with using crazy glue for the new tip, works, but probably not a good idea, if i ever had to get it off again.
