Nor Cal Fishing Newbie

Aloha Everyone,

 I was a pretty avid fisherman back in Hawaii but I'm pretty clueless here in Nor cal. It's a big change of fishing scenery. I have fished out of Davenport and have crabbed the coast of HMB and I'm very thankful for this site or else I'd probably be going home with an empty cooler each time.

 It seems like a lot of you are open to share your ideas and help one another out, I often paddle out alone and I was hoping I can tag up and follow some of you locals around one day and learn how to fish the area and maybe one day I can give back and show a newbie how its done.

Aloha Papio3  man I'd love to fish the waters your familiar with and would love to take ya out down there but that's not my turf.....if you come up the hill got a lot going on Sonoma/Mendocino Coast...I know those waters...so if you happen up this way...Game On Brother!!!  Just let me know!!!

Aloha and Welcome To The Madness!  Now get out there, catch some fish, and post up some fishing reports - we love a lot of pictures.  Keep an eye on "Hookups" and "Fishing Events, Tournaments and Trips" and try to make it out.  Yakhopper's Series at ARW is coming up.  Looking forward to fishing with you one day...

Aloha Papio3, great to have you out here brah! There are quite a few of us that fish the SMC (san mateo coast) pretty regularly and I'm sure you wont have much trouble finding someone to fish with. There's also Santa Cruz/Capitola/Monterey and also Carmel which has fished very well for me the last 2 weekends.

That said the SMC is no joke, do your homework, have all safety gear, dress for immersion, and don't go out alone. I see more and more people who are not properly prepared out there. Know the risks before you go, cold water and surf landings need to be respected...and there is always the landlord. Ask questions, you wont find more knowledgeable peeps than the ones on this site, it's truly amazing.

Also whoever you go out with the first time will feel alot better if you are setup to be as safe as possible.

Did I mention to be safe? WTTM!!

 

Thanks Str8fishin, I'd like to get out to one of the tournaments just to meet some new people and check out the scene. I def will keep my eye peeled on the hookups and the events page for future fishing meet ups.

Mahalo Golfish for the safety pointers my bradda, Safety is #1 in my book as well, as a kid I was blessed to be born next to the ocean and I will always treat it with repect.

   I can't express this more that I'm extremely thankful for this site and the people who post here. I've been following it for some time now as a guest and recently decided to join to meet new people. I think Fishing is fun but its a lot more fun when you can share your experiance with others.

don't know if your weekend is planned but Dr Habenaro "Jimbo" has a hookup for casper beach sat -??? it's just below Ft bragg and is a protected bay with a serious shore break everyday it's being surfed...I'm going to day trip it I hope........sun....

 I so want to head out right now, I've been yaking here in S. America (French Guiana) and its pretty nice. I just wish I had some poles.

 But maybe next weekend when I return from my business trip will hook up and do something. I'm new to the area but I know how to navigate open waters and have done my share of beach launches so I won't need to be baby sat too much. I hope. LOL

 The ocean is an awesome place to be, I would lose my mind if I didn't have a body of water near by. I love living in Nor cal, next to Hawaii there is no other place I rather be.

 If you're looking for some company I'm down to hit up Monterey any day it's only an hour or so drive.
