Can we be ticketed for Trespassing on closed parks?

I've heard of stories where NCKA members have received tickets going into parks that have been closed by the state by ticket happy rangers.

From the SJ Mercury News

Among those, however, the two beaches cannot be legally padlocked under California's landmark Coastal Act. State Parks Director Ruth Coleman said Thursday that those would remain open for the public to walk on the sand without facing trespassing tickets, but that bathrooms would be locked and there would be no permanent state parks lifeguard or ranger on them.

It seems like there is a difference from what is said and what is enforced. I thought I would share this.

I thought they were closing them because they couldn't afford to staff them, so how could there be Rangers there to write tickets!    Tom Steinstra in the Chronicle has written the same thing.  They are "closed" but you can still walk in, just no services.  Public land, etc.

Just ofund this on the Russian Gulch website.  Sounds like it's been partially saved for the moment.

Service Reduction Information

Until further notice Russian Gulch State Park will contain areas where services are reduced or eliminated due to the fiscal crisis.
For further information please contact the Mendocino District Office at (707) 937-5804 Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Day use will remain open during the winter. Self pay registration is required for vehicles entering the park.


Camper Information


Russian Gulch is currently open for camping. Reservations are recommended through June 30, 2012. Effective July 1, 2012 the campground will be available on a first come first served basis.

On a slight switch of topic, sorry, I was at Armstrong Woods last weekend to walk among the giant redwoods there. 90% of the people using the park, parked outside the fee area. It seems folks want the parks to stay open but when it comes to paying up for the services a lot of them are cheap fuckers. I paid, knowing that park is slated for closure.

Craig I could never figure why the park maintains a free lot just outside the gates.
I used to pay gladly but after sitting in the MLPA meeting and seeing that Jerk from the State Parks rally to close Salt Point to fishing I pay only when I have to. My favorite was when someone from Coastside asked him if he had ever been to Salt Point he lowered his head and voice and said no but continued to sing the merits of closing it. I think Dale was at that meeting.

Yes Mike. That guy from State Oarks really pissed me off too. Whats a taxpayer to do? Use it or lose it? I cant for the life of me figure out reef campground. It actually MADE money.
