Maiden Voyage

Well...
Its been to long since I bought my yak and haven't taken it out.
I finally got a chance to take out the yak for the first time...no fishing. Just wanted to get a feel for it since I had never been on one.
Paid the fee at the local lake. $19...damn, there gonna run me dry on funds!
Got to the dock hoping there was not going to be anybody just in case fell...there were hella people. Hopped on the yak and off I went.
Felt good. Got used to the paddling. The feel of the yak.
Practiced the self rescue technique. It did take me some time to figure out exactly how to do it but I got it.
Next outing will be with a fishing rod. Hopefully I hook up so I can get a feel for fighting and reeling in a fish while on the yak...seems like it would be a little hard.
But like everything. Practice makes perfect.
I finally realized while they say welcome to the maddness...

Congrats on your first trip. After an hour or two, you'll be ready to fish without too much trouble.

Always think KAYAK when reaching back to grab a rod or something behind you.

I started out sailing/yaking w/outriggers and it was like being on a barge. No training/preparation for what was to follow. My first day with my rig as a pure kayak was a spectacle at the dock. Big crowd on hand as I nearly went in head first off the 16 foot "rolling log".

Now I don't even think about it. Your body/moves adjust rapidly to KAYAK. And your fishing will follow.

Yeah. Thats some good advice! Got used to moving around as well....but thinking KAYAK is definatly a good idea when reaching in any direction!

It was little nerve racking with all those people there. I just kind of blocked them out and concentrated on what I was doing and everything was fine.
My dad went with me. 5 sec. on the yak and he flipped it. I have to admit, it was pretty funny. Even people above the damn got a good laugh out of it!
