So I received my Lowrance Fish Finder on Friday. On Saturday I went out to the garage and sat in my kayak to see how I wanted to mount it. I thought about mounting it on the center hatch like I have seen others do but I am very reluctant to drill holes in the kayak if I do not have to. Plus I open and close that hatch allot otw. IT would also be in the way when the hatch is hinged opened and bang into the kayak or my leg. So I decided against it then thought about mounting to the track on the side but that would also be in the way.

I had recently purchased two other kayaks for my son and wife. I wanted to be able to use it on those as well if I wanted to take a smaller kayak out. I then came up with a design to be able to make it portable. (I did not see Fishbucket's post on his Fish Finder until I went to post this or I might have done this to begin with.) I also had one of those water tight boxes size large from Wilmar my wife and I bought a few months ago for our phones, wallets , and keys.

This is how I made my mount and battery storage. Went to home depot and picked up some stainless steal machine screws, locknuts, and some spray on rubber coating. I sprayed the box with the rubber coating and let it dry for about 5 to 10 minutes and add a few more coats waiting a few minutes between coats and 30 minutes before handling it. Take your units mount place it on top of the box then drill the holes to mount it. Also drill a whole big enough  to fit your wiring through to your battery. I cut a piece of rubber (kind of like a tube for a bicycle tire) to the shape of the mount base and poke 4 holes where the screws go through but make sure the holes are 1/4 the size of the screw to make a water tight seal. Attach the base to the box using the appropriate length screws and nuts. Attach your wires to your battery and store your lose wiring neatly in the box. Add a few pieces of foam to secure the battery inside from moving around. Its that simple.

How I made my mount to attach the DSI transducer in the recessed scupper. Got a scrap piece of aluminum sheet from work measured it to fit the scupper. Cut it to fit and bent one side a little past 90 to attach the mounting bracket that came with the transducer. Drilled a hole in the bracket I made to match the threaded insert that was manufactured in the scupper. Screwed it in with another stainless steel screw. Attached the bracket that came with the transducer to the bracket I made with more stainless steel screws and lock nuts. Last I bolted the transducer to the manufactured bracket using the bolt that came with it. Thought the transducer is not completely protected it barley sticks out. I still need to trim the bracket I made so the transducer with fit further inside the scupper and paint the brackets to help prevent corrosion, especially with all the dissimilar metals that are used (Aluminum connected to zinc and stainless).

PS. please forgive the misspellings and misuse of words like steal or steel its 1AM. Not sure if I found them all and hope the pics work.
