I had the afternoon off Monday, so I decided to beat the heat with a little time on the water. No winds like we had for Sonoma Slam, so I headed over to big open water of the main body. I have more familiarity with the areas that hold fish out here.
I  talked with a guy pulling his boat out and he confirmed they were still hitting in the top 20'. Heading up the west shore the water was glass smooth, usually not good when toplining. As I turned across the lake the breeze started to pick up, not much, but enough to break up the surface and give the fish a bit more comfort close to the top. I was dragging a pair of Tasmanian Devils, pink/white/blue and pink/white/green, and got a good strike as I made the turn southeast toward the dam. I was entering my favorite trolling lane. The original creek channel runs very near the east shore past a prominent point, an area that seems to hold consistent numbers of fish. A short distance from the point and my port side rod doubles over and that wonderful sound of screaming clicker followed by the splashing of a nice trout back behind the yak. Some sweet aerobatics and a good fight....oops, forgot to start the video camera till it was just about alongside. The hook came through just below the eye, a little blood but it doesn't look to be critical so back he goes. Just beyond the point now and the starboard reel starts screaming. I'm a bit better prepared on the video cams this time, so you guys get a a little fish porn.

The Tas Devils have a lead tube in the body, a bit lighter than a 1/2 oz. banana weight, so I figure they are running about 15' deep at 120' back run naked. A few more weeks and I will have to get use to running the little downrigger on the yak, that should be a good workout.
