Just want to make sure i read the regulations right. rockfish has never been open on memorial day so i searched for in season changes and such but found nothing to the contrary. weird to open on the 12th but ok with me, i guess a phone call to the dfg might be in order.

May 12th it is, and it was open year-round until about 5 or 6 years ago.

north of pt arena opens may 12th, and has for a few years now, it also closes mid august, i think the 16th, cameron

GS = opener for rockfish and lingcod, but salmon and halibut will be open for early pre-fishers.   :smt001

How could I convince a DFG officer I am targetting halibut and not RF?

Maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet and come salmon fishing with you guys on Friday.

In light of this, I'm also gonna try to stay til Monday, now.  :smt003

Simple use more than 2 hooks or have 2 rods or more out.  If your using a salmon belly or tuna belly on a 16/0 circle hook I would think it wouldnt be too hard to convince the DFG officer your fishing for halibut.  Also go to a depth more than 120 feet.
