Hey folks. I've had a few different stickers just float away when they get wet. I have a new group of them I'd like to get at least a year of them not coming off. Anyone have anything they put on after applying the decals stickers to make them last?
Thanks in advance.
Matt

On my hull stickers (CGN-38) I covered the decals with strips of clear packing tape.

A thought, how bout spraying over them with a clear coat of some kayak friendly paint?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I just don't know of any clear kayak friendly spray paint.

I've got the vinyl ones at the bow and didn't do anything special and they are going strong after about a year and a half. I've also got various other stickers on my yak and they are fine. Nothing special. Just got to put them over the smooth, non-textured spots. I've got them on my T-15 btw.

Thanks for the responses fellas. I've got an old OK Scrambler that apparently likes its surface sticker free. Wonder of lightly sanding it's surface will help?

Matt they keep coming off because you just paddle way to fast you need to slow your speed down just a bit anything under 20 MPH should be good  :smt044

Make sure you properly prep the surface prior to applying the sticker; including cleaning the surface with alcohol. So surface are not "adhesive friendly" no matter how good you prep the surface; and the tackiness quality of the sticker's adhesive will also affect it too.

Also remember that the label may expand and contract due to weather temp, which will have an affect on the adhesion.

So far I been lucky with my vinyl I use, haven't had one peel off yet; except when I blow them off by accident with my pressure washer :smt013.

i used a big box store rattle can Clear Coat on my ElMarko markings and it took a couple of years to start to wear off = not sure if it would keep the stickers from falling off, but the clear coats dont seem to effect the yak plastic.

So far marine goop has been doing okay for me.  It doesn't look good after cured but it protects my numbers and letters from getting scratched from rocks on the shorelines.

The clear coat did not affect my P15 but it will start to yellow and become less 'clear' after several uses on the water from the sun.
