Well, after my last 2 trips to Salt springs reservior ( up 88 south of lower bear) I want to give it another shot. my first trip I got 18 & 19 inch wild foot balls, 2nd trip I had a few 12-14 inchers, lost a 17 inch wild football boat side, and saw a 25 inch wild football.

FYI its probably going to be a little bit of a trek to get down to the water, I doubt it has come up more than a few feet since january,

Bear or caples would be the back up if snow or something get in the way.

Well im crazy enough to make the trek to salt springs. I have fished that lake for the last two years in may without a lot of sucess. Did you get these fish this year? Last year in may I have a hell of a time getting my yak out of the low water conditions after six inches of snow that fell the night before. Let me check the calendar. Sounds like fun.

sounds like fun but it would probably kill me to get my Hobie Pro Angler into Salt Springs.

I checked with some guys from Amador today since I was also thinking of getting in there too, Ellis road is bLocked for first 1/4 mile with snow, but should open up in a week or two, otherwise it's all the way in from Tiger Creek, long way, I'd recommend an overnight. The Moke was officially declared critically low this year so even all this weather is not bringing up the level much, you might want extra hands to help you portage, would be tough with wheels

Both Times I went Yak Daddy, I got fish. First time, in nov I got a an 18" and 19" both with Huge shoulders on them, and lost a 14 and another 18 "ers.

 2nd time, in Jan. I went, I got 3 14"s lost a  17 " and saw a 25"er all were wild fish.

and yeah portage was wicked the 2nd time, lake was down like 75 " below the end of the ramp.

Yeah I am hoping the upper road will open up by the following weekend. BTW I'd be heading up sunday probably, plan on going in for work saturday for a few hours, then going Morel hunting that afternoon.

I had not thought of it, but I'd be game for camping there

are there any campgrounds close to Salt Springs or the campgrounds are scattered along the river a ways back?

there are a bunch of campgrounds along the mokulumne river  like a mile from the lake. I have yet to see them actually open, but both times I have gone fishing at salt springs there were people camping there.  Moore creek camp ground, Mokulumne camp ground, and white azalea are the names I see on google.

So are there any takers for sunday?

I plan on launching sunday morning 7-8 ish solo or with peeps.

However, Camping is dependent upon whether other peeps are planning on camping. I live close enough to drive up in the morning and don't particularly want to dusty up my kayak morel hunting saturday, but if some NCKAers want to camp saturday night, I am game. it would reduce the amount of back tracking up and down highway 49 :).
