At the last minute this morning I decided to hit up Lafayette to get some bass practice in.  I didn't expect much out of the day, because the Barometer is on the move, and it was windy.  But, I didn't have anything important going on today and I knew I wasn't going to become a better bass fisherman sitting at home.  So I loaded up my gear and headed to Lafayette.  I paid a bunch of fees, and hit the water.  It was ugly.  I pinned tulies under my leg as I threw my Roboworm on a drop-shot rig.  BAM, right out of the gate in the tulies across from the launch I got this guy.

I've got confidence in my drop-shot now, so I decided to try something new.  I wanted to throw out a 5" senko with an EWG hook.  I talked to my local bass expert and he recommended I use 15lb florocarbon on my baitcaster reel.  Well, it sure did sound simple.  It was hard as hell though!  Almost every frickin cast I got a birds nest.  All I've used this particular baitcaster for is thowing various plugs and lures.  I hardly get nests tossing lures, but just having that single senko on, it was almost every time.  Maybe I should use a spinning reel for tossing senkos?  I don't know enough about senko fishing to go against my guy's advice.  Maybe its the 100% floro I've got?  That is some pretty wirey stuff.  Anyhow, it was back to the drop shot and BAM!  Got this dude in some tulies.

After I landed that guy the rain came and I couldn't get another bite all day.  I was cruising around tossing my drop shot for nothing.  The lake looked like this.

I saw a guy in a Yellow Hobie, but didn't get close enough to say hello.  It was better than staying at home.

Way to stick it out Thats awsome bro! I like a spinning rod and reel when i pitch senko's. I like to underhand lob them too. Think it gives a better dropping action to the thing, but its hard to do on a windy day. If you dont have a kelp clip Get One! i Cant survive with out mine.

Glad to see you getting out and after them bass. There in there as you have seen, and one will reward you for sticking it out and tossing them plastics!

Great Report man, keep 'em comin, stoked for you, a fatty is only a cast away!!!
I like to have fun.......

Good to see your practice in bass fishing is paying off bro. I've never seen that lake ever getting ugly like that. Hard to imagine.

With the near weightless rigs I generally go with a lighter weight spinning setup.  I save my baitcast rigs for swimbaits, lures, heavier plastics, so on and so forth.

Nice fish!!!  I love that lake.  But the fees are a bit much for me and the launch setup is somewhat of a hassle - duck shit all over the place.

Wow, lafayette looked mean!  Wtg on the bass skills, confidence in your tactics sure helps! Baitcast = birdsnest, if you don't pay close attention.  Try setting your backlash so that it stops spinng right when it hits the water, and keep your thumb close on the spool! Its hella hard for me with weightless riggs too! Nice job!

Dude, I was thinking of going this morning and doing a conference call with a judge otw, but didn't want to get caught and be in deep doodoo. I'm going tomorrow rain or shine-regardless of barometric pressure...

Peace!

Dude! Awesome job out there! Thats still one of my favorite places to fish...

As far as backlash goes, what I did was get one of those rubber casting weights and practice in my backyard and front yard and test your limits. I got as far as almost getting it stuck in the neighbors tree across the street...oops! I was inspired by some of those guys at the Fred Hall show that would hit targets 30 feet away with a little  flick of the wrist, it was pretty cool to watch.

Let get together and fish soon Bro!

at least you built up some dropshot confidence.....that water / wind would have made me abort mission.= i hate wind when i'm yaking!

WTStickWithIt!!  there are some big bitches in that place, and the real bass guys throw them big swimbaits for them. but that is too much work for my simple mind :smt012

Thanks for posting up!
