My 2012 Adventure has a camcleat on the "down" pull cord for the rudder. What's up with that? I suppose I could read my owners manual, but I'm at work and don't have it with me. Thanks fellas.

Probably needs the rudder held down for high speed sailing. :smt003

Jeff, that cleat is to pull the rudder down cord snug and 'lock it down'. If that cord is not secured the rudder can be pushed back up out of the water by swell, kelp, etc. jim

Thanks Jim, that's what I was guessing. I'll be sure to inform my girlfriend, after all, it is her boat. ***sarcasm alert***Im sure she was wondering as well, and will be glad to find out. HAHAHA!!!

I did not always use the cleat. Then one day while launching from Capitola, I started doing doughnuts for no reason and rode into a Pier fisherman's line.  He sarcastically yelled at me, I yelled back an insincere apology and peddled away embarrassed.  Now I always use the cleat.

I never used it either, until I got my AI with the new rudder.  If I dont lock down the rudder it seems much harder to get it to turn left/right.  But if I pull the cord to the end and cleat it, releases the tension on the controls for some reason.
