I can't seem to find anything in the Cal DFG regs regarding fish retention / in possesion when fishing for more than one day. It does mention having to give notice if you are going out on a boat for more than one day. However this seems to be more for long range trips out of San Diego.  I'll be at GS6 for 3-1/2 days.  I don't get out as often as some, so, when I leave it would be nice to have more than one days worth of fish.
Anyone know what the rule is?

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.

Good question!

I know the deal on abalone, and have heard that Lings are 2 in possession, even if you have them back home in the freezer, but am not sure about RCG...

For dive and overnight charter/fishing boats that stay in CA waters (Catalina, Channel Islands, SoCal Offshore) you need to get a multi-day permit in order to keep multiple limits.  The rules are pretty strict and you need to be on a boat, maintaining a certain distance offshore for the duration of the trip.  A roadie to Shelter Cove isn't going to qualify for a multi-day permit.  If you want to load the fridge, take a wife, girlfriend or kids and gift them a limit.

edit.....here's the permit and rules.

Kiel and I have been talking about the same question.  We are planning on arriving early friday at shelter and weather permitting we are gonna fish.  Then fish Saturday.  What happens next if a DFG warden shows up and looks at our cooler is the question.  We are both flying solo so no gifting loophole possible. :smt012

Just bring whatever you catch at the end of the day over to the campground and we'll eat like kings!

Aim for quality over quantity and you'll end up with plenty of meat.  Don't keep rockfish under 18", cabs under 19", lings under 28", get some salmon, get some crab, get some ab, get some uni - these are all possibilities for us, so think positively regarding your potential to take what you need.

The rule for all species we'll be pursuing is that you cannot have more than one limit in possession per person.

10 rockfish/cabs/greenling
2 lingcod
10 Dungeness crabs
2 salmon
1 pacific halibut
3 California halibut
3 abalone

Just how big IZ your cooler?!!   :smt003 :smt002
