I have some in-laws that are thinking of going out aboard this boat. I looked back in the "reputable party boat" thread and saw one recommendation. I know nothing about this boat-does anyone have an opinion on this vessel?

thanks!

I fished that boat a few times. Seemed like the locals were giving the capt crap but maybe I wasn't privy to the "joke" like most of the charters seems the regulars get the prime spots regardless of them being there 1st. Overall it was fine and I would fish with that boat again.

Don't we have a few party boat deck hands among us? Be nice to have a friendly connection

I would recommend Queen of Hearts. I'm not associated with them, but every time I went fishing with Capt.Bob  I had great time and success

-100 on the QOH.

I've never fished the HCat but the skipper posts at coastside and wch, shares info and by all accounts works hard for his anglers.

I agree with Art. Captain bob on the Queen is a cool guy but I think he has lost his fire a bit and he always comes back on time to the harbor.

Tom on the Hulicat will go the extra distance for you to get some fish. A few years ago we were fishing rockfish at the islands and he swung out and trolled up a couple tuna on the way home after we limited on rockfish.

If the salmon aren't biting he will hit up some reefs for rockfish or maybe fish for dabs or crabs. I like that kind of versatility in a captain.

I haven't been out with either of them for a few years now though.

Ive heard great things about both those boats but the only experience Ive had out of HMB was on the Tiger fish and it was amazing! The crew and capt were very helpful and accommodating and made my 9 year old cousins first time rockfish an amazing experience!

Thanks guys!
I'm not averse to paying a bit more for a quality experience. I am lobbying for a Capt Jimmy charter out of SC since there will be 4 of us.
We may still go with the HC, so I appreciate the feedback!

I'm with Otter on this one. I think if you look at a list of his regular clients its pretty telling of what kind of operation he runs. Maverics, Discovery, Hollywood and research scientist to name a few.

I would describe Tom as friendly, professional and willing to go the extra distance or stay out late to satisfy his customers. He and his crew are certified slayers.

Side note: a few years ago I spoke to some captains about mother ship trips, and Tom was the only one to say he was interested right off the bat and even throw out a couple of suggestions.

Excellent recommendation, thanks Sharky.

I've been on the huli Cat a ton of times.  If you want to catch fish that is the boat to go on.  Always going the extra mile for his passengers.

One of the best boats in the HMB fleet! Tom Mattush is the owner and operator of the H-Cat and is very well knowledged on finding fish! Two others who also pilot the boat are Mike Velasquez or Mike Giraudo; both are very experienced captains who also know where to find the fish.  All three are very well respected in the fishing HMB community. I have been aboard this vessel numerous times and personally know each one of them.

My next boat of Preference would be Gravy II; Captained by Manny or Kelly...
