I am new to the board but not new to fishing out of yaks. Launched at New Hope Marina, in walnut grove, Ca at 2:30 pm.  I launched a 2:30 to catch the end of the outgoing tide (low tide) and fish the first part of the incoming. I have never fished this area, but I do understand how the tides flow.  The outgoing tide was very strong and If I launched early it would have carried me a long way from the marina.  If you are thinking of fishing the delta look at the tide charts and use the current to move your kayak, Outgoing goes one way and incoming the other so paddling wont be as tiring.

I was armed with a yo-zuri 5in red/white plug to troll for striper, a black and blue jig for bass and a red crawdad pattern rattle trap for both.  New hope marina has may sloughs and many paths to take, so know where you are going.  The first thing If you are going to fish here fish at high tide, because all of the good black bass structure i.e. logs, rip rap (rock on the levees) and weeds will all be under water.  I arrived at low tide and was disappointed to see all of the logs where I would use my jig were out of water, the rip rap where i would use my rattle trap was to close to the weed line, so only caught weeds.  I trolled the yo-zuri for small stretches when the weeds were to thick along the rip rap and there was nowhere to toss the jig, but I didn't catch anything.

Once the tide switched from outgoing to incoming the water started to cover the structure and I was able to hook on small black bass on the jig, which to my dismay tossed the jig at the kayak.  My fingers did not smell like fish at the end of the day, but I will be coming back there is a lot more water to explore.   I pulled out of the water at 6:45pm.

The launch fee is $5.00 and easy seeing that it is a boat launch.  Also be careful there are a lot of bass boats, ski boats and other fishing boats, and its not a wide water way.  Most of the boats I encountered were fishing boats, so they slowed down and gave the encouraging wave as they passed.  Good Luck, have some hope and your fingers will smell like fish.

Right on man, thanks for the report!  Keep em coming!  I've had success in the Delta with a Chrome and Blue rattle trap.  Mostly for Stripers, but have definitely caught bass on it as well.

If you are ever in the mood for company and showing off your skills, give me a shout.  I'm a mountain lakes sort of guy for fishing and would really like to learn the delta/river methods.

Cheers!!!
