Questions for the noodle experienced.
I have a T11 and I like the in hull storage for camping gear, spare paddle, etc... was even thinking of maybe storing fish in there if the water got rough. So.....now that they are getting noodles in the stores the question is How Many?  I want to keep my storage to a point but, maybe just pack noodles between the sides and scuppers? That would leave plenty of room but, will it do much good safety wise?  I figure I can squeeze at least 24 of those narrow ones in.    How long do they hold up with mold, stink, etc....  I do not expect to be able to paddle the yak if it fills but, might be nice to at least get up on something even partly submerged to wait for help.
Thanks. Your input is appreciated.

Yes, I moved it. Thought it was kind of a thread jack in the classified section. Thanks

Just finished stuffin the Revolution with noodles :smt001
Got 24 4 ft. small dia. and 2 4ft. large ones in it, plus the 2 large  foam blocks  that the factory put in it.
I don't think this yak is sinking :smt002
Got most of them in, tried the rudder didn't work :smt012
had to pull half of them out because I had a rudder line on one side looped around the noodles :smt013
Fixed the problem, rudder worked :smt001
I used the large dia. noodles and the factory foam blocks as cross braces so the noodles won't shift.
Hatches still have room for gear and easy transducer/battery access.

Got Noodles?

Went to Target in San Jose this afternoon to pick up some pool noodles.

The sign under the box was .48 cents a piece. I scanned the item at it read

$1.99 for one noodle. I took a new box of 28 ct to the counter and contested the price.

I got the box of 28ct. for under 15 bucks. A savings of 75% or roughly 45 bucks.

The manager ordered one of the inventory / stocking personal to change the pricing immediately.

I can now check this item off of my list.

Looks like I have almost 4 years with the 24 noodles (and 3 large crab floats) in my X-Factor.  NEVER take them out, no problems with mold or other gunk that I'm aware of.

Then, in June 2010 I decided to swamp the boat completely - pumped it as full as I could and it was very unstable when half full but became stable and easy to sit on when full - next experiment should be to see how it does full in surge/surf/wind.  Tougher controls on that latter plan.

I believe in the noodles - my intention is that the carcass of my boat will still be under me after a shark attacks and punctures my hull.

Video is also part of the plan.   :smt004

Yea Eric,
Saw that video you did some time ago, even before I owned a kayak(great videos by the way).  Was pretty impressive that it even floated so high out of the water. And yes that was my thought that it would be nice to at least get up on something if the water was not so friendly.  More so after seeing that punctured Hobie at Pigeon Point.   Thanks for the info.  :smt006

I have dry bags for camping. Why not use those? Gear storage/flotation in one package. Just a thought.

Good idea Christian. I originally did not want to go with pool noodles and checked into the floatation bags like G-Whiz put in his Raptor but. the Trident is not a good front hatch design to fit out of the way.  The dry bags will help with floatation but, I don't always carry them.   I might pack a loose change of clothes and leave a lot of air in em and throw them in when not camping.   Might as well put them to more use.
Thanks, I like to hear ideas on things, helps me zero in on my personal preferences.

When I feel like I am close on how I will roll I will post a "rigging" video.  Might help people decide on rigging ideas like all of you have helped me.

I think the last thing you want to do is put fish inside.  Hard to get smell out. :smt012

dont roll it closed till you have it in place, may make it fit just right. My father and I used the dry packs going on extended canoe trips to isle royale( in lake superior). We have taken many waves head on, got wet but never sank.

I have filled dry bags with empty gatorade bottles. I have never done a test but they arent going to pop I can say that. Noodles stuffed in the back of the T-15 and the dry bag up front with the empties.

Yep, that's the ticket Ravensblack. Much easier than trying to get some air to stay in the bag. I'll throw in a change of clothes AND a bunch of empty plastic bottles.  Seems like there are a lot of ways to "Git-R Done" without spending lots of money.  Great advice..Thanks again  :smt003

I drink about a 2 liter a day of diet soda, after debating noodles for my boats and the cost vs possible gash or roll and sink, i just stuck about 30 2 liter bottles in one of them, wonder if itll help hold the the boats form when hit by waves.  Only cons i can think of is the added sound and vibrations from the bottles, and a little extra weight, i just stuck them in through all three hatches.  If the sound is minimal, i will probably do the other. Peace of mind i guess, i know of one incident where my uncle and his friend rolled their boat at the deep channel, but no sinkings, they lost a battery or two and a motor, and possibly the trolling motor as well, they didnt have the chance to fasten the equiptment, these were the days when the levee road was open and you launched anywhere u wanted..
