I was out in my boat May 29th off of Bodega Head and it's possible to get a kayak to the salmon. You'll have to get out to the buoy, though. I think it's a mile to the buoy off the head. I've fished it before in the kayak. It's good to have a buddy and a nice day. Some good days are coming up. Besides the wind is on your back for the ride home!

MY buddy and I caught a 15 lber about a half mile west of the head buoy.

There are two buoy's off the head right?  One is close and the other is a bit out there.

Nice catch,  you think 10 mile section is working good these days as well?

Thanks!

There's the whistle buoy on the south end of the island, there is the buoy a mile off of the head, then there are some buoys north that mark the College Marine Lab reserve. If you  go 12 miles out from the head there is the weather  buoy.

The fish are gone now. The water got too cold and they moved out. Look for water temps to rise and the bait and salmon will come back.

sweet! thanks for the advice!.  When i go out of Doran Launch, i was talking about the one buoy that is the closest basically way left of the big rock out there.    Im looking forward to ten mile section , but im guessing it will start warming up as summer comes.  :smt001

Okay, I see where your coming from. I usually come out of Bodega Harbor. There's a great kayak launch there, that's  free. Just take the road out to the head and before it turns and goes uphill there is a free parking lot that puts you in right by the jetty.

Yeah Basilkies, Campbell's Cove is a great free launch for Bodega Harbor and Bodega Bay.  It's also one of the top ten polluted beaches in California.  Although, I'd hardly call it a beach and certainly wouldn't want to swim there.  But I tell myself that wading in with my kayak is much different than swimming there.

Top Ten?

More like top three! Consistently. However, the write up I saw at Heal the Bay says it is "natural bacteria" and not due to man's pollution, but rather due to the large amount of bird and sea mammal waste.

If that makes it any better.  :smt003
