Try the rental shops. They may have used carbon fiber paddles for cheap- call me the frugal yakker, but I got one from MBK used for a really good price.

That BB paddle is a great Paddle I had the Angler Model and loved it never would have sold it except I got a Great Deal on the Breeze Angler.
I tried a lot of paddles and I highly recommend Both the tape on the Angler Models are nice. The only other paddle that I considered was the Swift.

The Breeze paddles a little nicer than the Slice the breeze enters and exits the water smoother nice on a long trip or if you want a little more speed. The Slice blades are tougher and if you push off with your paddle would be a better option. it's sorta like fishing with a better rod mostly feel and you can paddle a little longer because of the lighter swing weight of the graphite.
I have never paddled the Hybrid but I think it would be ideal not much heaver than the breeze and more durable blades I liked having a paddle I wasn't too worried about it I tossed it around a little much better option river fishing IMO.
They don't make the Angler Breeze any longer but it's about the same as the Angler Pro.
The Graphite shafts are much stiffer some like it some like a ittle flex.

paddle 101
before you buy a paddle you need to ask your self a few questions.
1. Where are you going to use the paddle
2. Your height and boat width
3. High angle or low angle
4. standard shaft or small shaft, bent shaft or straight, 1pc? 2pc? what feather?

If your going to paddle mostly in a river around rocks you'll want to look at the nylon reinforced blades. They are more durable than carbon or fiber glass but have more flex. When the blade flexes you loose power and efficiency.
If you going to paddle in flat water or ocean you'll want to look at carbon blades or fiber glass blades. Ive played with the bending branches paddles and they have a lot of flex in them. The werner carbon blades are the best in my opinion. Even better is the foam core carbon blades. the foam core floats the blade at the end of your stroke, reducing the swing weight even more.
Your height and boat with play a role in the length of your paddle as well. 230 seems to be popular but often it is too short to properly fit. Most people use 230 because that what the shop they purchased at had on hand. Again depending on height and with you might need a 240 or even 250.
High angle vs Low angle paddle. If you look at the blade shape you will notice two distinct shapes, narrow and long or fat and short. Narrow and long is for low angle paddlers. They offer a higher cadence and are more for long distance paddling. They don't bite as much so you can paddle longer. The high angle paddle is shorter and fatter it is used for power and burst speed. Think white water paddles, where you need lots of blade to brace your self against the water. This is all personal preference, I have used a low angle paddle and didn't like it.
In my opinion werner has the strongest furl system and best designed blades on the market. They have a nice dihedral shape in the blade face that completely stops any flutter in your stroke, again reducing fatigue. Werner is also 100% made in the USA. I highly suggest getting hands on with any paddle you wish to buy. Try this, lay two paddles down on the ground, put your right hand on the tip of the blade and your left hand in the center of the shaft. with 2 fingers lift the paddle with your left hand. This will make the weight difference slap you in the face. An average paddler takes 1000 strokes per mile, the few ounces in difference will add up to pounds really quick

I have a bending branches paddle (slice) and think it is fine.  I have limited experience with other paddles though.  I do like how mine is adjustable in length and angle.  I still looks good and I have had it since 2007.
