I would have to go with a lingcod between 26" and 33" as my primo rocky target.

I like the big fat fillets and don't feel so bad about killing them since they grow pretty fast.

Of course halibut and sea bass top that, but for rockfish, I'll go with the ling every time. Plus it is on the NCKA sticker!

I learned this trick in a Steve Rachlin BBQ book.  Take a peice of card board about the same length and width as the fish , wrap the carboard in foil 2 layers deep so no card board is exposed. Oil the foil, and lay the fish on it, season it with what ever you like.  Using Indirect heat, lay the fish while on the cardboard on the grill, on the cool side.  You can now smoke it or grill it indirectly with out the fish falling apart.  If you need to flip use to pieces of card board and just flip/roll from one board to the other.  Your fish will look good to go without falling apart.  Pick it up with a big spatula or use gloves and grab it at the ends and transfer to a plate, or leave on the foil and transfer everything to a plate.  Much much easier!

that's a neat trick Squidder K! I'll file this away under "good tricks to know". Hopefully I'll get to try it this summer.
