Hello all, just wondering if these fish are catchable north of San Diego.

Been looking into it, I've only seen one reference to them being caught north of San Diego a few years back.

Thanks.

Matt

Not in numbers that people target them directly.  They are bycatch on the albacore grounds.  You hear about a few being caught each year all the way up to WA and BC.

What Polepole said.
My supervisor caught one several years ago fishing albacore outside Fort Bragg. I've heard of them being caught off Crescent city too.

Go to tuna water (warm) and they will be there. I've caught them out of Bodega bay. (way out on a party boat) :smt007
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I think a few were picked up by some of the Brookings, OR tuna chasers last year, also a few yellowtail in the mix.

There were some caught out of Shelter Cove.  Usually the albacore chasers find the dorado and yellowtail near kelp patties floating offshore.

American River just below the Watt Bridge.  Six feet of water, used my downrigger to get me down to 19 inches, 120lb Dacron mainline with a 2lb fly tippet leader, Alabama Rig Teaser with 5 - 14" trout swim baits followed by a purple with pink polka dot hoochie tipped with Eel and powerbait and dipped in catfish stink sauce.  Used a lot of Steelhead smolt chopped up as chum.

When are we going to the pay trout farms.  I can't catch crap these days even with all the shiny new high tech fishing equipment.
