 Any of you gear heads / Car guys have any Thanks. input:smt013 Just got done paying 150 dollars for a guy to tell me exactly what I told him an hour ago. Bought a cheaper code reader and told the guy what codes it threw.
 1st miss-fire plug 3
 2nd Mass air flow
 3rd catalitic Con Pending?. What does pending mean / will it pass smog?
   The mass air flow I can do myself.
The Cat ?
Tune up is 400? I know if I had my tools here I could do it. just not the case.
Total for them to do $11-1200

98 S70 2.4 non turbo.

The good news is they don't check the moniters on 98 and older, so fix the misfire with new plugs and check the coils if it's direct ignition. They tend to crack.
A good test is if #3 is missing swap with two and reset light if it comes back on with #2 replace that coil.
Mass meters aren't cheap, but you can get used ones, call Volvo Saab wreckers here in Sacramento.
By them not checking moniters they won't know you just reset your light and have a pending code.

So $600 bucks later and it still won't smog? And now the PCV supply hose needs to be replaced and $200 more! AAARRRRGGGGGGGGG.

dammit!! well the hose assembly from the dealer is 148.41 and it sounds like he is charging 30 min. so as much as it sucks, its a fair price. I cant tell you if that's the issue with out looking at the smog paper and your car.
 even I dread smog test on my old truck, that's why I'm looking for a pre smog truck.

Randall,  arrrggh is right.  Volvos will make you crazy.......get out while you can! 

Mechanic gave me all the paperwork to go before the referee. I make a date w them they review it and give me a 2 yr pass. If you have to spend more then $450 to get it smogged. What a joke. Thanks for the input.
