I have no kayak experience!

I suggest kayak lessons first before anything else. You want to be a kayaker FIRST and a fisherman second  :smt045

Good luck and welcome to the madness!

some good tips and advise here: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/board,47.0.html

Always have a lifevest. I went in the drink at Clear lake last week, can happen in a split second to anyone.

PFD.  The most important tool. More important than your kayak, your rods, etc...

And I would also advise you to not go alone for a while. Use the buddy system. Plenty of great folks on this forum who will show you the ropes. Check out the hookups page.
And leash only what you want to keep. I lost a lamiglass rod and some tackle at Clearlake because I failed to leash it all. I got complacent. That word will mess you up in this sport.
