every year in the spring and summer we go to the Russian River and I go fishing. do you have any tips on smallie and american shad fishing in the Russian River?

Try 2"-3" black worm rigged with just enough weight to bump the bottom. It imitates a leech. When the sun is off the water try a 3" zara spook in a frog color. Just work the seams,  entrances to pools and any over hangs. Good luck!

My go to lure is a rooster-tail (various colors) in the tail ends of riffles and around steep rocky banks.
