Pretty interesting article. Lots of good info + links at bottom of article.       Scientist swear by numbers that rarely confirm.
Side note is the Cabin for rent below the article.

It's easy to sharpshoot at fish managers.  All I can say is: try it sometime.  Easy to criticize and hard to do.

Ahhh, Dave I thought you knew me a little better then that! Having been schooled in Biology and Animal Sci. and being a little spiritual in nature, I have always been amazed by how the Scientist ( I never said fish manager) work their numbers so hard. My Chico St. Animal Sci. Teacher, Veterinarian, Dr. Rose told me "Always be suspect of numbers, they are usually manipulated. That has always stuck with me.  I have also worked on a 140 acre Fish Farm with 15-20 large ponds with 5 different spices. I know the little bastards are hard to count!   No offence meant.

Randall, I was responding to the article, not anything you said.  It's all sampling and modelling....it's the best we can do.   It's like like the blind guy grabbing an elephant tail a thinks he's got a snake.
