I'm using a 12v 3.4 amh battery for my 161 hummingbird ff with built-in gps (black n white).
The battery runs out aftyer 3 hrs. of use.
for those of you that might be using the same size battery for your FF, do you think it is time to buy a new one or is this just the capacity of the battery When running FF w/ gps?
I could buy a bigger bat. with more Amh but then I would have to replace the batt container and fool around with the wiring.  Just too lazy.

I guess the real question is how much run time you get with a similar battery with a full charge?

3.4 amh is defiantly not enough. I use a 12v 7 amh on my lorance x4 and get a full 8hrs plus. I'd try a bigger battery.

I also get 10-12 hours with a 7.2Ah powering LEDs and an Eagle 350.

Allan - I think I was using the same battery. It worked fine at first, but after 2.5 years or so of non- heavy use it started to die after only 2 or 3 hours.

It might be that my 161 has a gps in it and eating up more power than those without.  I don't mind recharging after use but I hate fishing blind when it dies on water :smt013

Check the user manual ... http://store.humminbird.com/media/document/M_531480-1_C.pdf

The current draw is .383 A (or 383 mA).  You should get way more than 3 hours out of a 3.4 aH battery.  3.4/.383=8.8 hours.

If it is SLA, the battery may be dying if the charge drops below 10.5 volts? Have to be consistent about keeping the battery charged.

Thanks guys.  I will stick to the 3.4Amh but will just do a better job in keeping it charge with a charger/float charge
