Hey all,

just in from a kayak paddle and dive at Timber Cove this afternoon. Hit the water and was diving by 2pm ish. Water was clean and purifying. Started out fairly shallow to look for Scallops and found three super nice ones(I'll be eating them raw in short order)before venturing out deeper.  Three is a nice snack! Shot a decent Blue Rockfish and headed for even deeper water. Passed on a big blue Cabezon(over 20")hiding in a crack(not sure why, guess cuz they are not common and super cool just to watch). Had a nice ling(24-26)follow me around and didn't shoot him cuz he felt like a pet. Saw some other fishes and let them be as I concentrated on my diving and observing on this nice afternoon.

The deeper water gave me about 25 feet of hazy visibility and I continued west to look for the blue stuff. Had some great dives and finally found some deeper water to test my abilities. Hit a 40 foot dive for 57 seconds and felt stoked about that. 60 feet seems a no brainer and I'm happy about this. Worked in closer and ended the day in 18-20 feet with a dive of 1:11, my longest dive yet. Watched the sun go down as I paddled to shore and felt invigorated and cleansed from the grind of everyday life. We are blessed to be able to crawl into the womb of our lady Pacific and have her recharge our batteries.

As a side note, I saw many empty abalone shells in the shallows but many, many healthy abalone as well, especially deeper, out to 40 feet, including lots of Juniors in the 3-5 inch class. I smiled upon them. Working on part two of the giant abalone hunting season and hope to have a nice movie to share soon. Have a great weekend and Christmas brothers and sisters,

SRJ

Very nice report, Shannon! A picturesque day on the Sonoma Coast. It's great that you're able to know the stats on your dives, and find your limits in the good vis.

I've been itching to get back up to the North Coast now that I'm able to successfully find scallops. It seems like I see them all over the place now in Monterey/Carmel the past few times I've dove there.

Great time Shannon! I lok forward to getting in the water with you in 12'. Putting the fishing to rest for a bit and concentrating on some diving skills that are rusty as hell now after 3 years basically not diving save one time. The clear clean days in the north are a special treat arent they.

Great narrative of a nourishing and fulfilling day, Shannon - I like how you subdued the kill instinct on the cab and ling and followed your shopping list - the Easter Method is fulfilling and honorable.   :smt001

Rick, Craig and Eric,

you all hit on the key parts to smiling at the end of the day. Thanks for echoing it in your words and philosophies. Shannon
