Anyone ever use a crab hawk before?  If it works as good as the videos portray; could give you something to do while your crab posts are soaking.

It looks cool... I do question its legality here in California.

The Sports Authority in Foster City has them in stock and they're pretty cheap

Looks cool might be worth a try ill se if i can find one and ill test next time i go out.  i dont see any legal problems with it its not really a pot so no need for escape rings, i put it in the same categories as the lasou type crab snares.
Where did he go george

I bought two and I find that at doran you drift to fast to use them. I am still going to try them at other locations though.

I'm going to give them a try.  I thought about drifting, figured if using a spinning reel you could leave it open and keep the line taught with your finger.  Either way, when the pots are soaking, you'll have something to diddle with to pass time  :smt003

Its good for pier fishing or if there's no current or drift.  Last week I was using a crab snare with 4 oz weight and gave up because I was drifting too fast and crabs couldn't find my bait for the snare to work effectively.  There was very little wind and had a slow 1 knot drift at a 50 ft. depth.  IMO you're better off with crab rings on a yak.

I use them and they easily work as  good as in the video . I've had mine for 4-5 years and they were $25 then , you can get them for 1/2 that price or less at most places . Your gonna need a heavy rod/reel  , loaded with crabs it puts lots of stress on smaller saltwater setups , I use either a Penn 8500 or a 4/0 Senator  with 30 lb. line or larger .

They are pretty cool , crabs pull down your rod tip when they are feeding , looks like a regular bite while fishing . Chicken legs work the best with the bait pin they use to hold the bait . Good Luck !

Thought I'd give everyone an update - bought two of these at Denios (Danielson brand) for $10ea.  Attached a couple small bouys with parachute chord.  After dropping my pots, dropped the crab hawks in and pulled each about every 10mim.  I caught so many reds and rocks that I lost count.  Some were keepers, some weren't - I was having a blast catching them.  Well worth the money.

Did you add any weight to them?

I will have to try it with a float the next time I go out, Yah the water was like glass yesterday, it was an awesome day on the water.
