I have a Ugly Stik CAL 1100 7ft Med action 8-20 line/ with an OKUMA AL 200W Reel (Bait Caster) w 40lb braid line 100+ yds. Can I use this set up for salt while going after Link and other rock fish? I know I may have to modify the ferrels(sp) because of the braid. Am I asking too much for the reel? I have a Squidder(Penn) for stripers and a Penn 60 and a heavier Penn reel for Sturgeon and Salmon.

I don't see this reel holding up long in the salt and with such a small line capacity your retrieve will be pretty slow
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

The squidder works great for RF and lingcod.  change out the drag washers and rinse well after each use.  Rag wipe down with Corrosion X, and it is a "forever" reel.

no need to change the drag washers if they are the new carbon ones. A little cals drag washer grease after a clean.  I own the same rod, I have a cheep shakespear tw30l reel. Good combo. Never let me down yet. My favorite yak rig is penn jigmaster 500l on an ugly stik tiger 7ft.

Thanks all for your replys and PMs. I went and pulled the trigger and bought the following: 2 TR200G Shimano Reels. They will ftr the former rods I have which are 7 ft Ugly Stiks which I really like. I love the GLs but I have a tendency to kick the darn things overboard which happens all to often.

Looks like a good all-around reel, but I predict your great-grandchildren will not be fishing with it, as they would a squidder or jigmaster.

Hey, let them buy their OWN reels!!

Curmudgeonly yours,

Allen
