I have 2, one a low buck (Eagle cuda 240), the other kinda expensive (humminbird 788), I like em both.

My recommendation would be to get one with GPS and an internal map,  I think you can still get that at about $200.

Take a look in the gearing up section, this question gets asked all the time and there is already lots of discussion on the subject,

I also have two.  A Eagle Cuda 350 black and white with gps in one kayak and a Lowrance Elite 5 with gps in the other kayak.  Everyone fights over the yak with the Elite 5 when we go out.  It has a 5 inch screeen its color, and you can see your lure as deep as 110 feet down.  Of course the Elite 5 was around $500.  Worth every penny in my book.  Not to hard on the battery either.

My penny.

The Eagle is great for the price, but the base map is primitive and non-upgradeable. I use it on the Delta in my boat and it always gets me home, but lacks any contour detail.  The FF is better than most sub $200 units without a GPS.

Got an email from BassPro with this FF.
i have the Fisheasy 240= black&wht screen, no gps. It is the cheapest and it is the best. Bomb proof as they come. This one is the color version. I paid 70 for mine 5 yrs ago,,,,so this price looks good.

Lowrance 68c.  Under $300.  Duel FF/GPS and in color.  Easy install, at least they were easy enough for me to do it with two left thumbs.

My eagle cuda 350s has been a major PITA this season. The female pins in the power cable corrode too easy no matter how well you try to keep dialectric grease on them. I replaced the cable/transducer $75 and now wish I would have put that towards a different FF.
Head unit went out now. If you only want a FF to last one good season then this eagle is ok as far as its functions etc. I have done some researching and found that others are complaining of same issues with this FF.

ditto aka-kimo..
my Eagle Cuda 350 had the exact problem... female end of plug corroded...it worked sporadically at first then not at all recently ( i found I could hold the plug from behind til I got the unit to power up then sometimes it would miraculously stay powered up)  ... I am contemplating paying the $80 to replace chord/ plug but may indeed shop for a new unit..
Too bad cause I liked the affordability of the unit.

No problems on my Cuda 350.  After every trip I lightly spay (mist) the FF unit with fresh water.  After its dried  I put some Corrosion X into the female pins and stick them inside the FF unit. Its like brand new after 3 years of use.  It always gets soaked with saltwater on my trips.

A little maintenance goes a long way.

When I was PB I did the same thing on my Furuno FF and it lasted 8 years.

good tips on mx...

so Cabela's has the brand new unit in Bargain Bin for $169..good price.

for anyone else with a plug corrosion issue....
I contacted Lowrance (they bought out Eagle) and got connected to Lei-extras.com which is a site where I can get replacement part 99-91 for $26.79 plus $10 for shipping..

this will involve splicing into my current lines to power source and transducer which still work fine.

I thought I was doing a good job of keeping away the corrossion. But after numerous problems and no visible sign of corrossion, I cut apart the female connector , and sure enough it was corroded on the inside, electrolosis from the inside out?? Saltwater, you gota luv it!  My yak is still cheaper than any PB I've ever owned. So thinking of a Humminbird 365i for next year.

Still love my Cuda 350s, but did have a corrosion issue on my old unit, the 250/s??  With my 350 though, I never un-plug the cable from the back of the unit, so I probably have less of an issue from that.
