I used to goof around with 1/8 scale off road RC electric cars and  Lipos can fail in unpredictable ways. I still use a 4S 5000maHr Lipo for my fish finder and I charge it in the fireplace. Lipo sack or outside as mentioned is a good idea too. I charge/discharge mine to 1/2 if I'm not planning on using it for a extended periods. Treat them with care and proper precautions and you will be fine and get a few hundred recharges on them as well. Dispose of properly as well.

Great example as to why these aren't happily allowed on aircraft and large amounts of them must be ground shipped.
