Hey all!  My dad and I went to Spooner's Cove today and did a little surf fishing.  Hi-lo leaders baited with shrimp and squid yielded one nice calico surfperch (about a pound and a half), two good size grass rockfish (2.5 and 3 pounds), and one nice blue cabezon (4 pounds).  Had a blast out there with some fine beach weather (not so much for 'yakkin').  Funny thing is that, had we paddled out, we would've passed right over these fish.  Enjoy (I know I will)! - Will

Sounds like a fun day at the beach - especially if you got to fish with your pops.   :smt001

Too bad about the photogs...   :smt009

Wow, looks like you and your dad had a great day! Nice variety and size for surf fish. I still haven't even caught a cab from surf or yak so I'm envious! I think that's the best part of surf fishing, you never know what you will get. Some times just surf perch, other times rockfish and sometime exotics. I was a bit further south of you guys earlier this year and caught my fish guitarfish and it was a blast on 10 LB test.

Thanks for the post, makes me want to go surf fishing.

Will, welcome to the madness brother!! Glad to see you and your father got on some surf action. On top of that, y'all did an awesome job  :beer3

Since I've started yak fishing, my shore/pier/rock fishing have been reduced to basically nothing; so it's nice to see shore reports :D

Thanks for the report Will, hopefully I'll hook up with you and others before rockfish season ends to do some yak fishing in the Central Coast. I've been meaning to drive down that way to do some fishing out there. Wtg brothers!!

Hey all!  Thanks for the feedback, and I look forward to seeing you all OTW someday.  Yes, I live down on the central coast, however Eric (Yakhopper) is the one who really got my dad and I hooked on the yak fishing thing.  So, rooted in the NCKA thing, but I've been trying my hand with CCKF since they're mostly local to me.  Thanks again! - Will
