I found out at the last minute today that I had the afternoon free as of noon so with Eric (eyeatbay) as my inspiration I decided to head to the honey hole.  Actually I've only been there once and I don't have a GPS so I just headed straight out from BullHead Flats towards the duck blind/Pimphouse.  It started raining lightly when I came across the Richmond/SR bridge and didn't stop until I was on the water and out past the duck blind.  By then I had been marking fish for the last hundred yards so I decided to stop and check it out.  In between rain clouds the sun would poke out briefly and there was almost no wind.  There were only 2 power boats on the horizon and no kayaks.

I was falling asleep until a school of small stripers came by and decided to eat my bait.  I caught and released one and lost another one to a missed hook set.  AND then someone turned on the wind.  It started blowing big time and next thing you know there were 2 foot standing waves.  Since I was having fun with the stripers I tried to stick it out but when the wind was spinning me around and dragging the anchor with water blowing over the bow I figured out it was time to head in.  With the wind blowing from China Camp I was paddling directly into the wind with my bow crashing through the waves.  It was a good paddle back and a fun day on the water.  Just getting out and shaking off the cabin fever made it worth the trip.

This might have been answered already but how long do ghost shrimp last if I refrigerate them immediately?  Or should I just go ahead and use them for fertilizer?

You did a right thing - quit. It could be very challenging - not only paddling against the wind, but ending up with the mud if too late. I learned it the hard way. Tide is an important factor to fish at SP.

Ghost shrimps could last 3+days. Frozen ghost shrimps don't have freshness smell, so they are not as good as fresh ones.

Ghost shrimp can last a week or more if you have some salt water to rinse them with.  I've heard they die from sitting in their own urine.

Allen,

Thanks for the info...too bad I read the post while I was eating my lunch, :beer1 LOL.  Sounds like I should have just released them when I got back in at Bull Head Flats.  I'll probably bring them into work with me tomorrow and release them at lunch in the Bay.

I cut my ghosties up, after there past fresh, add a little water and freeze it in a tupperware and then put it in a small mesh sack attached to my anchor when I hit it again. chum it up for the big guys and get a few bullheads that come sniffing around.
